Iraq in My Eye: Memoirs of a Navy SEAL by Chuck Bravedy PDF Print E-mail

Review by Steve

Chuck Bravedy was a Navy SEAL stationed west of Baghdad in 2006. After five months he thought the job they were doing wasn’t good enough and wanted answers. At first he blamed his superiors. Then, he started his own research, asking the guys who interrogated the detainees and interviewing the guys he worked with.

Iraq in My Eye is the result of his research. This is not a long, ‘scholarly’, research report. His findings are not “politically correct.” The book is based on real statistics and real first-hand testimony from those actually fighting the war. Bravedy wastes no words describing the problems and issues. He concludes his book with three goals of the War, solutions that strike at the heart of the war on terrorism, and tells a way to pull out our troops.

Mr. Bravedy’s Iraq in My Eye is a must read for those who want to understand why democracy isn’t working in Iraq. It is for those who to know what Iraqi terrorism is and why after these long years it is still a threat.

About the author…

A native of Canton, Ohio, Chuck Bravedy was not any more special than any other Midwesterner when graduating from High School - with maybe one exception. Chuck wanted to be a Navy SEAL.

The son of a pastor and nurse, Bravedy had read about the SEALs and when it was time to consider military life decided he wanted to be a SEAL more than anything else. After surviving the rigors of SEAL training, Bravedy was assigned to combat duty in Iraq - patrolling city streets to roust out suspected insurgents and terrorists.

While on duty in Iraq, Bravedy observed several disturbing trends and began to research life in military prisons, the unique spiritual grip of the Koran and mosques on Iraqi men, and how the military tied the hands of its professional, combat-ready forces.

The result, upon his return to the states, was the publishing of Iraq in My Eye: Memoirs of a Navy SEAL. In the book, Bravedy shares with Americans the complexities and intricacies of the war in Iraq and reveals three major steps that could turn around occupation of Iraq and bring about a peaceful withdrawal.

Now married and living in Canton, Ohio, Bravedy is active in his church and is spending some of his time volunteering for the American Red Cross. He is considering undergoing training to become a paramedic or similar life-saving position with the fire department.
