Lauren Smith: Tell us what your book is about? ![]() California Healthy Lauren Smith: What are some of the areas that are featured in this book? Can you tellme what makes them special? Patricia Hamilton: CONTENT features healthy dining establishments(including restaurants, delis, cafes, farmers markets, farm stores), food and wine festivals, wineries (a glass a day is healthful!), with walking areas nearby. WHAT MAKES THEM SPECIAL: whole foods, organic, local, and healthy, paired with community opportunities to meet and eat with people, THEN you get to take a short or long walk, indoors or out. The places are special because they bring people together in many unique ways to eat and play, get in touch with nature, be renewed in body, mind and spirit. Lauren Smith: When you wrote this book did you uncover any hidden treasures in California you weren't aware of? Tell us about those. Patricia Hamilton: HIDDEN TREASURES IN CALIFORNIA: The neighborhoods ofLos Angeles and San Diego. In Los Angeles, there are so many ethnic neighborhoods, that simply by visiting them, eating their food and mingling among the people while you walk, you have the delightful experience of traveling abroad without leaving the state. In San Diego, the neighborhoods retain the flavor of the 60s with friendly people, incredible beaches and tropical plants, and the best health foods in the state. Patricia Hamilton: UNIQUE: This is the first 'healthy' travel guide that offers attractive solutions to our obesity and environment crises. Food that doesn't endanger the Lauren Smith: Do you have plans for any other titles for other states or do you plan tofocus just on California? Patricia Hamilton: PLANS: California is the first in our 'AMERICA HEALTHY' series. Next we'll do the Pacific Northwest (Oregon and Washington) and the American Southwest (Arizona and New Mexico) and onward! Lauren Smith: How much of the book is focused on Organic and/or Locally Grown? Patricia Hamilton: ORGANIC: 85% of the eating establishments either use organic or locally grown foods. 100% offer vegetarian, vegan or raw. |
